The Tower of Hercules is the only lighthouse that, from its origins in Roman times to the present day, has fulfilled its original function: to serve as a maritime signal and navigational instrument for vessels crossing the Atlantic corridor on their voyage.

The Tower of Hercules preserves the Roman lighthouse inside, structured on three levels with four chambers per floor.

Over the centuries, the Tower has made its mark on maps, coats of arms and a variety of iconography.
