The 'Orgullo do Norte' takes place in A Coruña

The city hosts the main LGTBI+ festival of the northwest of Spain, the Atlantic Pride, and a programme of exhibitions, workshops and literary presentations

In A Coruña, the 2023 Pride celebrations have not yet ended. This week, the city hosts a new edition of the Atlantic Pride, the festival known as the 'Orgullo do Norte' (North's Pride) and which is already a reference in the northwestern of Spain.

After its inauguration at the Luís Seoane Foundation, with performances by Señora DJ, La Prohibida & Algora and Joe Crepúsculo, this musical event continues between the Plaza de Pontevedra and the gardens of Méndez Núñez with seven days of concerts. Fillas de Cassandra, MorenoMoreno DJ, Kelly Amethys or Jeän Fixx, will perform from Monday to Wednesday in the central square next to the institute where Picasso began to paint.

On Thursday, the Atlantic Pride moves to the gardens of Méndez Núñez, whose stage will have until Sunday Locomía, Samantha Ballantines, Soraya, La Love You, Agoney, Melody, Fórmula Abierta, Amistades Peligrosdas and DJ Flashback, among others.

This edition of the festival began with excellent attendance figures, covering the capacity for the first sessions at the Luis Seoane Foundation. In 2022 about 35,000 people enjoyed Atlantic Pride in A Coruña and by 2023 it is expected that even more visitors and locals will join the 'Ogullo do Norte'.

Activities for the Pride in A Coruña

This festival, unique in northwestern Spain, is joined by an extensive programme of activities for the Pride. A Coruña is committed to diversity and visibility by creating an open and participatory Pride with a programme that includes exhibitions, workshops and screenings.

On 5 and 6 July, the city launches the 'Proud Bookstores' initiative with two dates: Neé Barros at the Berbiriana bookstore presenting 'Nom estamos quebrades' and Luis Maura at the Nobel bookstore with 'Holy Child and Nest of Birds'. On the other hand, on July 13 and 22 A Coruña will hold two workshops on LGTBI+ theme in the Espazo Diverso of the old part of the city, with 'I'm proud to break my fears with you' by Lucinda Rey the first day and an activity focused on drawing with Greta Debelius the second.

After the Atlantic Pride, the music will continue playing on July 15 in the city of Elisa and Marcela in the Luís Seoane Foundation with the festival 'Pride Les', that brings A Coruña to La Negri and Lola la Yaya Dj. That same day the Coruña Cores Choir and the Cantabile Choir will perform in the morning in Plaza de Lugo, completing the collective association fair that will turn this space into the epicenter of LGTBI+ outreach and activism.

There will also be time for screenings at the A Coruña Pride. For three days, between Wednesday 18 and Thursday 20, the Plaza de España becomes an open-air cinema with the cycle 'Cinema con Orgullo' which includes '20,000 species of bees', by Estibaliz Urresola, 'Cross Dreamers' by Soledad Velasco and 'Alex & Munchie contra o chisheteropatriarcado', by Carme P. Granxeiro with Xácia Paris Ceive.

In addition, you can already enjoy in the center of A Coruña, on Compostela Street, the exhibition 'Family album', with a selection of photographs by the A Coruña born Lestonnac Ibáñez that recalls the 18 years since the approval of equal marriage in Spain. It can be seen until July 16.
