Enjoy A Coruña this winter

Orzán beach

Life in A Coruña is enjoyed every season. Many people in winter decide, when faced to the cold and wind, not to engage in certain activities; however, the truth is you always have a plan waiting for you in A Coruña.

Henceforth we leave you with a list of ideas to keep enjoying the city these following months.

Walking through (almost) virgin beaches

Our city has several beaches that become full in the summer with people bathing, sunbathing or enjoying varied aquatic sports such as diving or surfing. And even though more people are less keen into taking a dip in winter, there's also the possibility to relax as you take a walk in any of our sandy areas; they are perfect to take a break and see things from a different perspective.

Riazor. With a length of about 570 metres, it's the most known along with the Orzán and it's separated from it by the Coraza, a structure located at the maritime walk which was an old breakwater of the walls of the city. It serves today as a lovely and wild viewpoint.

Orzán. Of around 700 metres long, it's an urban, central sandy area perfect to practice surf or beach volleyball. As with Riazor, it has hospitality options as well as basic travel services.

Matadero. Smaller than its predecessors with around 80 metres, it follows the Orzán. It's one of the most sheltered beaches in days with a more intense breeze, although it's the favourite of many sport enthusiasts.

As Lapas. Also known as the Tower's beach, it's chosen by many due to its natural surroundings and crystalline waters.

San Amaro. Another sandy area located near Adormidares, with a smooth tide ideal for swimming. Swimmers can be found all year long.

Concerts

Music is part of the culture of living in A Coruña. This is why, all year long, the city hosts performances and spectacles that bring together thousands of people in different venues and squares of its perimeter.

Highlights of this year include the concerts of Bad Gyal, Ismael Serrano or Malú; in March, it'll be possible to enjoy the music of Al Bano, Coque Malla, Café Quijano or the Grease musical.

Opportunities to see Mikel Izal, Marky Ramone, Tigres del Norte or Sergio Dalma among others won't be missed either. These will take place in locations of the city such as the Coliseum, the Colón Theatre or other party rooms.

Gastronomy, the main character of every corner of A Coruña

Atlantic gastronomy is part of the culture of the city. In A Coruña, it's possible to enjoy the traditional dishes and the more vanguard kind in plenty of restaurants and bars. You can also enjoy a good wine or the best beer at the MEGA Estrella Galicia museum.

Museums for learning and play

Museums are the true knowledge treasuries, time machines that connect us to our past and help us understand the world around us. And, if they let us enjoy and learn through play, we're certain of one thing: museums are perfect to visit all year round.

Thousands of plans await you. Enjoy A Coruña in all its aspects.

Lacónicas

And, following up with good food, don't miss the opportunity to try a 'cocido': a stew of the winter gastronomy, on which Lalín is almost a religion to try, made with meat, potatoes, chickpeas and vegetables. You can try it this year from February 8th to March 3rd.

Routes walking or by bike

The city never loses its essence, regardless of the weather. A Coruña has a majestic maritime walk of 13 kilometres, making it the widest of continental Europe.

Moreover, we recommend you do not lose the chance to discover the Atlantic from any of the city's perspectives, both on foot and by bike. There aren't many sunsets like ours.

A Coruña, culture of living. 2024 programme

This year, A Coruña is hosting major musical events, noteworthy gastronomic conferences and scientific and technological congresses.

Throughout the year our city hosts music and comedy shows, scientific conferences, gastronomic fairs or events with theatre and poetry as protagonists, making A Coruña a city where you can experience and enjoy culture with all senses.

Naturally, there are several activities this year which are an unmissable event for every city visitor. Here's a few ideas:

Morriña Fest (July 26th-27th)

A festival that brings together great artists from different genres and musical styles, bringing to the same place a varied audience that comes from all around the country.

Aitana, Louis Tomlinson, Yandel, Senra Senra, La La Love You and Dani Fernández headline a line-up that becomes increasingly popular from one year to the next.

Coruña Sounds (June 8th-July 24th)

The great cycle of concerts that takes place in the summer and brings together influential artists from the national and international scene. A unique festival for all audiences with performances in different musical styles.

The Port of A Coruña, the Coliseum and the Palacio de la Ópera will be the venues chosen by Camilo (08/06), Emilia (22/06), Camilo (11/07), Robe (13/07), Luis Miguel (21/07) and Chris Isaak (24/07); thus continuing to position the city of A Coruña as a point of reference in musical culture.

Atlantic Pride (July 7th to 14th)

A one-of-a-kind event in Galicia. Atlantic Pride, also known as the LGTBI+ Culture Festival of A Coruña, is an artistic and cultural proposal that seeks to be an element of transformation of society in favour of equality and non-discrimination.

Diversity is highly visible in the city thanks to performances by artists and groups such as Nebulosa (who will represent Spain at this year's Eurovision Song Contest), Rosa López, Las Ketchup, Mondra, Lontreira and Sila Lua, among others.

María Pita Festivities (all August)

The city's main festivities, the Fiestas de María Pita. A month of concerts, fairs, exhibitions and cultural activities under the name of our heroine, María Pita, organized for the enjoyment of locals and visitors.

The artists who will perform in the emblematic María Pita square located in the Old Town are not yet known, but there's no doubt they will be on par with great singers of past editions such as Mika, Luis Fonsi, Vanesa Martín, Umberto Tozzi, Miguel Costas or Revolver.

This 2024, discover a preview of everything that awaits you in our city as you continue taking part in our culture of living.

Noroeste Estrella Galicia Festival

Festival Noroeste Estrella Galicia (August 8th-10th)

This is undoubtedly the highlight of the María Pita Festivities. A free musical event that fills different venues in the city with wonderful music and always gives a platform to local and emerging bands. It also stands out for its concerts on the magical Riazor beach.

This year the festival celebrates its 37th edition and already has important confirmations such as Xoel López from A Coruña and Vetusta Morla, one of the biggest national indie bands.

Leisure guide

A Coruña welcomes the spring with its culture of living

March is here, and with it comes the spring. The days, becoming larger, allow us to enjoy the spectacular sunsets offered by the Atlantic littoral. The green areas bloom and give way to a singular chromatic spectrum, the appropiate time to visit historic gardens where heritage and nature create a comforting refuge .

And, of course, A Coruña continues to advocate for culture even stronger than before. Music, exhibitions, congresses and theatre. It's its Culture of Living, its identifying quality
